Heinz Roland Schneeberger, organ

Heinz Roland Schneeberger was born 1928 in Biel-Bienne. He visited the schools of Biel and the Protestant teachers' training college Muristalden in Bern. He studied at the conservatory of Zurich and graduated with the teaching diploma for organ, piano and schoolmusic. He took his concert diploma at Heinrich Gurtner in Bern and graduated with distinction of the Schweizerischer Musikpädagogischer Verband. From 1959-68 he was the organist at the Eglise réformée française, Bienne-Ville (église du Pasquart). From 1968-82 he worked as an organist and music teacher in St. Moritz. Since 1981 he is editor of the magazine for Protestant church music "Musik und Gottesdienst". He performed organ concerts in Switzerland and abroad. He founded the today still active "Orgelfreunde des Engadins", a group of friends of the organ, in order to promote the interest in good organ music and to show the valuable organs of the Engadin and of the adjacent valleys to advantage. Because of Schneebergers collaboration at the edition of the Protestant hymnbook for the Engadin and the Val Müstair, "Il Coral" 1977, some songs with romanic texts, chorales and organ preludes came into being. From 1982 to his retirement 1993 H. R. Schneeberger was headmaster of the music school and conductor of choirs in Herisau AR.
