Anna Schaffner, (alto) who originally studied education science and became a primary school teacher, received her musical education at the Conservatory of her native town of Berne/Switzerland (Konservatorium der Stadt Bern). After receiving her diploma she continued her singing training at the Munich Conservatory (Hochschule für Musik München) with the Professors Ernst Haefliger and Brigitte Fassbaender and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau at the Hochschule Berlin. She graduated receiving her diploma as a soloist with distinction. From 1987 to 1992 Anna Schaffner was a member of the Opera of Bremen/Germany where she sang many of the famous mezzosoprano and alto roles like Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Prince Orlofsky in The Fledermaus or David in Saul under conductors like Pinchas Steinberg or Marcello Viotti, and after leaving Bremen she participated in many opera productions in Germany as well as in Switzerland. In addition to her activities in the field of the opera, she developed a considerable career in concert and especially in song recitals. She has worked with leading Swiss orchestras like the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, the Philharmonic Orchestras of Berne and Basel as well as with many of the important choirs in this country. Anna Schaffner has also been on stage at many festivals and other concerts all over Europe and also made radio productions. Her voice has been recorded on a number of compact discs, especially in the field of classic Lieders.
